Audi is currently working on some higly tuned versions of their 2.0 liter TDI engines. The engine in this concept has 221hp and 332lb-ft of torque. This car is the Audi A3 Clubsport.
There are currently no plans to bring this car into production, but is does give us a glimpse of what is possible in the future.
Someday a “Car of the Day” could be a sporty diesel powered car. You can read more about the Audi at Autocar-UK. In Europe the diesel engine and fuel station network is much more common and accepted. There are still a few challenges here in the United States before diesel is seen as anything more as just an “alternative” fuel option. Sporty automotive applications such as this could help the American case for diesels.
